As Canada's capital, the name "Ottawa" is
often seen as synonymous with the federal government.
Centre Block, shown here, is home to both chambers of
Parliament -- the House of Commons and the Senate. In
reality though, the inner workings of Parliament alone
spill over into several other buildings in the capital.
And the federal government is much more than Parliament.
Numerous government departments and agencies are spread
throughout the National Capital Region, including Hull in
Quebec. Parliament is only the most visible and publicly
accountable branch of the Canadian government. © 1999 Richard McGuire |
