Shown here is the view of the
Alexandra Bridge from the Parliament Buildings.
On the opposite side of the river is Hull (now part of
Gatineau), and in
the distance are the Gatineau Hills. French is
the dominant language in Hull, as in most other
parts of Quebec, though English is widely spoken
at tourist attractions and federal government
buildings. Many people in Hull are bilingual, but
visitors shouldn't assume everyone is, and should
be aware that language is sometimes a sensitive
issue. An effort to speak French is usually
appreciated. © 1999 Richard
