Gatineau Park

Gatineau Park also contains a number of lakes including this small one just off from Meech Lake. The latter is less familiar to Canadians as a lake than as the name of a constitutional proposal, which so divided the country that for a while in the early '90s Canada's future was in doubt. The constitutional deal was hammered out in secret and seclusion by then Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and the provincial premiers at a government retreat not far from where the above picture was taken. Signs are posted throughout this area warning that nudism is prohibited in Gatineau Park -- just in case you were planning to drop in on the government retreat in your birthday suit!
