Rideau Canal

The Rideau Canal has pedestrian and cycle trails on both sides. Because these are quite level, they are easy for cyclists of various fitness levels. Bicycles can be rented in a number of locations. The entire National Capital Region has an excellent bicycle trail system, extending along the canal, the river, into the Gatineau Hills of Quebec, and along city streets. In winter the canal is maintained as the worlds longest skating rink -- extending about 7 km from Carleton University to the downtown.
