To rise in elevation from the Ottawa River to the
navigable portion of the Rideau River, boats on the canal
must pass through a series of locks near Ottawa's
downtown -- bypassing Rideau Falls. The locks add beauty
to the city centre. Above is the Hotel Chateau Laurier,
